Diatomaceous earth (DE) is the remains of microscopic one-celled plants (phytoplankton) called diatoms that lived in the oceans and lakes that once covered the western part of the US and other parts of the world.
How does DE work? Internally & externally, when diatomaceous earth comes in contact with the insects or worms, the sharp edges lacerate the bugs waxy exoskeleton and then the powdery diatomaceous earth absorbs the body fluids causing death from dehydration.
Natural preventatives for fleas, ticks and mosquitos: A good start is feeding a species appropriate diet. Insects and parasites are attracted to unhealthy pets. A healthy pet will deter or be able to handle parasites. A healthy pet does not happen over night. It is a lifetime of a feeding a species appropriate diet and dealing with any issues that may have been inherited by previous generations.
Lemongrass, citronella, neem oil and eucalyptus are a few natural preventatives that you can spray on your pets for fleas, ticks and mosquitos. Google natural flea & tick preventatives, be sure to select natural ingredients that are not poisonous to pets. Just because something is natural does not mean it is not poisonous to pets if ingested.
